The Gili Adar Institute for Learning and Intervention in Adolescence Crisis and Suicide (G.I.L.I.)
This transformative research center honors the memory of Gili Adar, who was murdered at the Nova Music Festival on October 7th. Gili lived each day fully with joy. She had a remarkable ability to touch the hearts of the lonely and the despondent, seeing the worth in each individual she met. Although her life was so cruelly cut short, her values and spirit live on through the work we are doing.
Our Institute specializes in investigating the complex interplay between biological and psychosocial factors in children and adolescents in crisis with depression with a particular focus on suicide prevention.
Based at Geha Mental Health Center, we advance cutting-edge research while developing innovative therapeutic interventions in children and adolescent mental health.
The “Umbrella Project” is set to become our laboratory’s flagship study- a groundbreaking five-year initiative that will transform the way we understand and address suicidality in children and adolescents. This comprehensive project will integrate multiple levels of assessment, including self-report questionnaires, parent-report measures, biological markers such as cortisol, cognitive tasks, and ecological momentary assessments (EMA) collected through advanced smartwatches specifically developed for clinical research.
By combining biological, psychological, and real-world data, the Umbrella Project will provide an unprecedented, multidimensional perspective on the factors that drive suicidal behavior in youth. Encompassing the entire Child and Adolescent Division at Geha Mental Health Center, this study represents one of the most ambitious efforts of its kind worldwide. Its findings have the potential to guide early identification, prevention, and treatment strategies, ultimately saving young lives and shaping the future of mental health care.
