Carmel Medical Center Secure Operating Rooms
In 2015, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasralah announced that he had made all necessary preparations for a future war with Israel. In response, Israel deployed a preemptive strike in the heart of Syria, killing nine Hezbollah and Iranian leaders who had openly announced their plans to attack Israel’s north. One of the most prominent cities in the northern region of Israel is Haifa.
Carmel Medical Center is the leading surgical hospital for Haifa. If the city is under attack, the center would be forced to shut down 75% of all elective surgeries. As a national leader in cardio-thoracic surgeries, Carmel Medical Center cannot perform these delicate procedures when the operating rooms are vulnerable. The center has nine operating rooms above ground, none of which are secure in the case of an attack. If a war were to be engaged, all nine would have to be shut down.
Therefore, Carmel Medical Center in Haifa urgently needed three renovated, secured, and fortified operating rooms.
In response to the Hezbollah threats, the Israel Healthcare Foundation mobilized to meet the need for the fortification of this model operating center. With dedicated cultivation of American donors, Israel Healthcare Foundation galvanized support for this medical center – securing the renovation of three operating rooms to withstand acts of warfare. The people of Haifa can rest assured that Carmel Medical Center is a haven of health, where its patients can confidently step through its doors, leaving turmoil behind, and be treated safely.
